Reports Suggest Apple Is Nearing A Deal To Integrate Generative AI Technology In Ios 18 With Details Expected At The Worldwide Developers Conference
Apple Inc. is reportedly on the verge of securing a partnership with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, to enhance the iPhone’s capabilities with advanced artificial intelligence technology. The news, which surfaced on Monday, has positively impacted Apple’s stock, causing it to rise by 1.8%, closing at $186.28.
According to sources, the Cupertino-based company aims to embed generative AI technology into its upcoming iOS 18 operating system. Details of the new software features are expected to be unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference starting June 10.
Bloomberg’s recent report indicates that negotiations to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology into Apple’s ecosystem are nearing completion. Additionally, Apple is purportedly in discussions with Google to license its Gemini AI chatbot technology.
During a May 2 conference call with analysts, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed enthusiasm about the potential for AI technologies on Apple devices. “We believe in the transformative power and promise of AI, and we believe we have advantages that will differentiate us in this new era, including Apple’s unique combination of seamless hardware, software, and services integration,” Cook remarked.
This move by Apple could significantly bolster its position in the tech industry, particularly in AI, where competition among giants like Google and Microsoft is intensifying. The integration of such advanced AI capabilities could revive Apple’s reputation for innovation and help regain momentum in its stock performance, which has lagged behind other tech leaders in recent months. After the announcement of their March-quarter earnings, Apple shares surged above their 200-day moving average for the first time in over two months, signaling a potentially bullish trend for the tech behemoth.
