Samsung Moves Deeper Into AI with Announcement of New Galaxy Features

This year’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event highlighted the tech giant’s increasing focus on artificial intelligence, introducing several innovative AI features to its Galaxy ecosystem. Held in South Korea, the 2024 edition showcased new enhancements to Samsung’s phones, wearables, and other devices, although many of these additions are more incremental than groundbreaking.

One of the most exciting features unveiled was Portrait Studio, with actress Sydney Sweeney making a surprise appearance to demonstrate its capabilities. Portrait Studio allows users to create AI-powered avatars from their selfies. Although it may need further refinement, the feature adds a fun element to personalizing selfies. Users can upload a photo from their gallery and explore various styles, such as comic, 3D character, watercolor, and sketch, by clicking the pencil icon.

The new Galaxy Z Flip 6 includes Photo Ambient, an AI-powered feature that customizes your wallpaper in real-time based on the time and weather. This ensures that your device’s appearance remains dynamic and relevant to your environment. Photo Ambient also helps create a cohesive look by analyzing your wallpaper and suggesting screen layout options, like clock placement and frame color adjustments, to keep the background image prominent while maintaining a unified aesthetic.

The Interpreter feature, first introduced on the Galaxy S24, has been optimized for foldables like the Galaxy Z Flip 6. In FlexMode, users can have real-time conversations with translations displayed on both the Cover Screen and Main Screen. In Conversation Mode, each person’s language is shown on their respective screen, facilitating smoother face-to-face communication. Additionally, a listening mode paired with Galaxy Buds 3 offers simultaneous audio translation, converting what you hear into text in real-time, ideal for foreign language lectures or travel.

Energy Score, available on devices like the Samsung Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch Ultra, provides insights into how your health affects your daily life. Generated by Galaxy AI, this score evaluates factors such as sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate, and heart rate variability, offering personalized advice to improve overall well-being.

Complementing Energy Score is the Wellness Tips feature, which offers guidance on various health aspects, including sleep, exercise, and stress management. Driven by comprehensive data and individual interests, these tips help users make informed decisions to support their wellness journey.
