Artificial Intelligence is poised to revolutionize the economics of information, significantly reducing production costs, says Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI. Speaking with journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Suleyman remarked, “The economics of information are about to radically change.” He anticipates that in 15 to 20 years, the marginal cost of generating new scientific and cultural knowledge will be nearly zero.
Marginal cost refers to the change in total production cost when the quantity produced increases. By that time, Suleyman predicts that information will be open-sourced, making it accessible to everyone. He views this transformation positively, highlighting humanity’s fundamental role in knowledge creation, with AI acting as a powerful accelerator.
I think that is gonna be, you know, a true inflection point in the history of our species, because what are we, collectively, as an organism of humans, other than a knowledge, an intellectual production engine.”
